RE: Hartland RV Outlet

I don't see what the big deal is traveling to central Indiana!:B

RE: First Time Traveler

Just keep it to the right and let them pass you. Don't be intimidated into driving out of your comfort zone. That is a little far to try in one day - you'll be fresher if you spend the night half way. I don't think there are any toll roads in your route.

RE: Newbie: Does a heavier 5er do better in cross winds?

I think more than the wind, the lighter 5th wheel will be more affected by the weight of your Harley in the back. If you are already starting with a light hitch weight, it will be less stabil when you add weight in the back.

RE: Cougar 245RKS

pknoerzer, how hard was it to raise the trailer to match the truck? My truck is a 4x4 at stock height. Many thanks, Charles and Melanie It is a pretty major job to weld spacers between the spring mounts and the frame. I had it done by Mor-Ryde and they installed their rubber equalizer suspension. Like others have said you might not have a clearance issue. Paul

RE: Cougar 245RKS

We bought a 245RKS in 2005 to replace our Lance for the same reason. I don't think the quality is as good as the Lance but we have been happy. It is just for the two of us too, but my son and I did take a trip to the Smokies when he was home for spring break. He's 6' and 200lbs. and slept OK in the couch. We like the floor plan once we are in, but the rear entrance makes it hard to position on some campsites. The one thing it is missing is a coat closet. I raised up the suspension to match my truck, so we can get into some pretty rough areas. The short wheelbase makes it bouncy, but a Mor-ryde king pin box helped. I rarely use the slide on my hitch with a short bed - it definately wouldn't be needed with a long bed. Good Luck! Paul

RE: 5th Wheel Hitch Location

They might have been using measurements for a short bed - if it is measured from the rear. That will not be stabile that far back.

RE: Long Story Long---Need your valued advice

The other thing to consider is wind resistance. I have a smaller 5th wheel and considered going to a 1/2 ton truck to have something that was nicer to drive around empty in. The next time I was towing in a strong head wind I was glad I kept the Cummins. A 1/2 ton with a gas engine would have been screaming at high RPM the whole trip. That takes a lot of fun out of a trip for me.

RE: replacing mattress

Full size mattresses are hard to get in campers too. We replaced the thin mattress in our Cougar with a pillow top and extended the platform. The biggest problem I had was getting the larger, (and thicker) mattress in the camper! If you don't extend the platform the mattress will sag and you won't get the full benefit of the extra length.
